Can a Pontoon Boat Pull A Skier?

Question:
I just bought a 16' SkipperCraft pontoon boat.

I will be running a Mercury 95hp 6 cyl engine.

Do you think it will be powerful enough to pull a 130lb skier?

The pontoon's are the fiberglass type with a rectangular cross-section.

I don't have any experience with pontoons, although I have owned a 15' tri-hull family boat for the last couple of years. The 15' tri-hull with the same 95hp motor has no problem pulling a 130lb skier. I plan to change the 95hp over to the pontoon.

What are your experience's trying to pull a 130lb skier with a 16' pontoon running a 95hp engine?

Answer:
We've been wondering the same thing and have been out boat shopping. The dealers have told us that a 21 ft. pontoon would need a 90hp motor. Have you checked out the pontoon magazines. There's an ad in one that shows four skiiers being pulled with 5 people in the boat. No particulars on size or motor but it looked promising. (Voyager model)
