Question:
What boats come to mind as being 'good', considering:
- salmon fishing in Lake Ontario (some charters)
- classic design 1970s/80s
- twin engines
- fairly common, therefore 'affordable', parts availability etc.
Answer:
They have (and I have one!) a 30' "pocket cruiser" which is a fine
fishing boat and a great boat overall. Quality second to none. Twin
diesels (normally Volvo but they have done others). I have twin Volvo
44s (electronic, 260hp each). It flys.
You say classic design. Not quite sure what you are looking for there.
The Norstar is a lot like the old Uniflite built for ever up here in the
northwest. The Norstar is designed and built by the son of the guy who
started Uniflite. It has a "classic" Uniflite look. A lot of people
remember and still love the look of the old 31' Uniflite sportfisher
model. This boat has a similar look.
A couple of them are in use as charter fishing boats. One that I saw up
in Alaska this summer as I cruised up there on my boat. Three of us
fished out of my boat in Alaska. It was great. Heading out next
weekend with 5 of us for fishing.
This boat definitely fits your requirement for parts availability.
Everything on it is standard, off the shelf, quality marine hardware.
Again, second to none. Not exactly going to call this boat cheap - but
cheaper than a lot of other boats that you might be considering (Albin,
etc?).
