Question:
We are looking to buy a small ponton boat for recreational boating on a
650 acre lake. The lake is part of a state park and has a 10 hp limit.
We just saw an 18' foot Fisher that looked good. We are leaning
towards a FourStroke motor.
We would appreciate any comments on brands that you would recommend or
not recommend. In additional to Fisher, we have briefly looked at
Sylvan and SunTracker. Would you get the FourStroke over the 2 Stroke
engine? Are there any options or accessories that you would recommend?
Do they still make Lowe pontoon boats?
Answer:
- I was in a 16 foot wide body jon boat over the weekend with a 25hp
yamaha 4 stroke. I was very impressed not only with the low level of
noise idleing and on plane but also the power. We had passengers
of 375lbs(big dude), 300lbs, and me at a measly 200 and the boat ran
along quite nicely. I think a 25 hp 4 stroke on a medium size pontoon
would be fine and a 50 hp would be more than enough
- To be honest with you the lower noise level alone has me thinking of 4 stroke not to mention economy....
I wont get into enviromental impact that's for
another crowd !
