Question:
I am looking into buying a Bass Tracker aluminum bass boat for fishing
the strip mine pits around my area as was wondering if anybody out there
has had one or knows anybody out there who has one and what they think
about it. I know have a Gambler bass boat but would not want to take it
down the gravel roads that I would have to take to reach the water. I am
looking at the Trackers probably because for the money they are asking,
it is probably not a bad deal but I am unsure about the construction of
the boat itself.
Answer:
As I poste a couple of months ago, I just bought a used Tournament V-17.
It's a V hull, and I'm sure you're interested in the regular bassboat,
which is cheaper and draws less water since you're not worried about
rough water. I love my boat so far, and mechanically and electrically
it seems like a great boat. I've made a couple of really minor repairs,
like replacing screws which hold down the recepticals for the running
lights, but otherwise the boat has been great. I think a few of the
rivets might be leaking on my boat. After a full day of fishing I
can drain less than a gallon of water out. I don't consider that a
real problem. Probably a welded boat would be better, but they are
big bucks.
In NC you see more aluminum BassTrackers than any other bassboat.
They are extremely popular. I have seen at least 3 or 4 for sale used
too, which might be great for you. Keep your eyes open and ask your
local dealer if he has any used boats or to call you if someone wants to
trade one in.
One lesson about BassTracker/Nitro boats. Don't believe the catalog price.
They tack on extra shipping and dealer fees. Get the real price from
the dealer and negotiate from there.
