Bass boat? forum about central boat?

Question:
I am going to get a boat and I have few questions.

Here in San Diego County our lakes are small and the G3 165 or 175 with a 60 hp Yamaha is what I have kinda narrowed it down to. http://www.g3boats.com/EagleSeries/Eagle_165/ My old Toyota truck could pull it around here.

What are the differences between these welded aluminum hulls and a fiberglass hull. Isn't the aluminum lighter?

Is there a 16 foot fiberglass that is in these price ranges and the G3? I heard that Nitro has one?

What is the advantage or disadvantage of each material type?

I am looking for a 16 to 17 foot Bass Boat with a 60hp 4 stroke Yamaha that can be 2 to 4 years old in the 7-9 thousand dollar range. Am I being realistic? Anyone know a forum about central boat ?

Answer:
-This is *outstanding* advice and this is where I need the ROFF and ROFB help the most. Will someone please keep me informed of just this kind of tournemant ? Please consider 12-20 hours driving from central Colorado. I'm going to hit the internet links but I think this is where the internet forums can be very useful to me. Does anyone have a good starter tournament *and* not be embarassed by me. I will need to be a back seater but I can cast over my shoulder and I will not interfere and I will also *gladly* teach anyone what little I know about the craft of the long rod.

-Let's just talk about the sailing forum there. It has about 17 sections which are divided into groups such as general, seamanship, outfitting, racing, monohulls, multihulls, etc...a lot of topics get put into a category that people are unhappy with. Trailer Sailing has been one of those topics. Here on this forum everything is together in rec.boats so you have to sort things out, where on CIS it is semi seperated already. CIS tried to keep the chit-chat serparted and moves messages to the "Marinier's Lounge" which is like a giant bs bucket.

They sometimes have problems with people leaving a certain message in a section and move it to another. But people don't always take every section so it gets people upset sometimes.

IMHO, the sysops run a VERY tight ship on CIS, more so than any other forum over there that I have ever used in the 10 or more years I have been conferencing (used the Source before CIS and other PARTI networks, etc...even used the Well for a while).

Cost always seems to be a big factor on CIS, and rightfully so it cost about 2 or 3 times what it cost for an Internet connection.

There have been a lot of snappy comments toward rec.boats on there, and when there was an article in one of the sailing magazines about computer connections, there was a lot of jealousy that the Internet got so much coverage and they didn't since they feel their forum is the BEST sailing forum around.
